STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEN (0-1) 78 defeated by Casey Cavaliers (1-0) 94
J. Reardon (18 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists), J Latham (13 points, 15 boards), M. Rebula (14 points, 4 rebounds)
Our 2016 SCM runners up have not got off to the best start in 2017, with the Stingrays going down to newly promoted Casey Cavaliers by 16 points. With close to a full squad changeover from last years Grand Final appearance, it was always going to be tough to get going in Round 1. However, the first quarter saw a spectacular start, jumping out an early lead on the back of ‘Kelly Sports’ import Cam Baker and star Jason Reardon. However, the inside presence of Hobba and Polk for the Cavaliers proved too strong in the second, as the Cavaliers slammed on 32 points to hold a 12 point lead at the half. Injuries to Kelly Sports Import Jordan Latham limited his production in the second half whilst a nasty fall ruled Baker out for the rest of the game. Reardon did his best with some support from Rebula and Joel McFall (12 points) but ultimately the Stingrays couldn’t close the gap they gave up in the 2nd quarter.
Next Home Game: Saturday 1st April @ Geelong Basketball Netball Centre 8pm (Part of a triple header)
